Pomp & Circumstance*

Darth Fucking Vader
Saw this on a desk at a flea market in Connecticut.  In the top 5 awesome things I’ve seen this month.

This whole graduation thing feels a little “anticlimactic,” as my friend Ketra put it.  High school graduation was definitely a bigger deal - there was an actual sense of finality to it.  Something was done.  College is done too, I guess, but I really don’t have that sense that I had back then, that I was “moving on to the next phase of my life.”  Or, I guess what it really is, it’s that that border between ”school” and “everything else” is not so clear cut anymore.  I’m working on projects that I started in school and will finish outside, I’ve been living on my own for a while, and I’ve barely been required to go to class for the past year….

Anyway, now I’m sitting in my underwear (don’t want to wrinkle my suit) before graduation trying to inform all you internet people of what’s been going on.

  • I put up a teaser trailer for my thesis project, Pose (by the way, if you’re following this blog, you should also check blog.posethemovie.com every now and then…).  I’m trying to get my act together and finish up the second half of that in August.
  • My Cuba documentary played at the NYU Visions and Voices Intermediate Festival and received “Faculty Commendation for Documentary Film”
  • I wrapped shooting on two kickass projects: Greg Luna’s MWM, and Raquel Cedar’s Gideon Verite.

Otherwise, now I’m officially no longer a student and therefore officially unemployed.  But it’s ok, because it’s summer and I can still pretend to be carefree.

*I had to play that in orchestra for every graduation at my high school for four years.  I hope NYU’s not tacky and doesn’t play that.
